Signs You Need to Upgrade Your Fishing Apparel

If you aren’t using the right fishing gear, it could be holding you back from an amazing fishing experience. With the right apparel, you could be staying out longer on the water, seeing into the water to know where the fish are, and keeping your glasses from fogging while still protecting your face. Watch for these signs that you need to upgrade your fishing gear.

You Are Getting Sunburned

A T-shirt is fine for strolling on the beach, but if you want to stay out fishing all day, you will need performance fishing shirts. Find a shirt with cross-ventilation to keep you cool. It should also be made with material with a high UPF rating, such as 50+, and feature long sleeves. You still want a shirt that is lightweight and durable, able to handle the water and the sun at the same time. For that, it should dry faster than a cotton T-shirt, keeping you cool without feeling like you are wet all the time.

You Can’t See In the Water

Regular sunglasses are great for protecting against the sun, but won’t help you up your fishing game. Instead, you need polarized sunglasses. Polarization offers additional, specialized protection against glare from the water. These sunglasses will keep you protected, and cut through the glare to let you see below the surface. This helps you spot fish you might not otherwise see, so you know exactly where to land your lure. You can also get specific shade colors meant for different locations, such as out on the open water, fishing inshore, or on a stream.

Your Mask Fogs Your Glasses

If your fishing mask protects you from bugs and the sun but is fogging up your glasses, your sunglasses aren’t going to help you see into the water, and the fishing mask isn’t right for you. Upgrade to a fishing mask featuring ventilation so that it won’t fog your glasses and will help keep you cool. Like the performance fishing shirt, you want a fishing mask that has a UPF rating to keep the sun off of you and prevent sunburns. It should also be moisture-wicking to keep you cool but not wet, easily drying. For the best results, get a fishing mask made of antimicrobial material, which will keep odor at bay, making it more comfortable to wear. After all, how comfortable you are can dictate whether or not your fishing experience is successful or frustrating.

About Gillz®

When Kent Hickman was still just a boy growing up in his home state of Florida, he would take any chance he could to get out and fish. Kent eventually went on to fish professionally and join the tournament circuit. While fishing professionally, he had trouble finding fishing gear that stood up to the demands of professional anglers. He needed apparel that kept him protected from the elements, comfortable, and cool while out fishing in the blazing Florida sun. In 2009, he founded Gillz® to provide his fellow anglers with stylish shirts for fishing, performance fishing gear, fishing masks, accessories, and other high-quality fishing apparel.
