What to Pack When Going on a Fishing Vacation

You’re about to pack for the fishing trip of a lifetime. Whether it’s a guided boat ride down a river or a deep-sea fishing trip, it’s essential that you bring the right gear. Whether you bring your own rod is up to you, but you will want to pack the right clothes, like shirts for fishing, important documents, and accessories such as a fishing net and pliers. Here is the list of some of the most crucial items.

Performance Fishing Shirts

Performance Clothes for Cool or Warm Weather

Pack clothes for the weather and climate you will be visiting. Performance fishing shirts can help wick moisture away from your skin and keep you cool in the hot Florida sun, letting you fish all day, while a windbreaker or thicker jacket will help in colder weather. Pack an extra set of clothes in case you get wet.

A Professional Fishing Mask

A fishing mask can both keep the sun and insects off you, and protect you from buff burn. The GillzMask™ from Gillz® features iconic GillzVents™, which channel air across the neck and down the back, as well as mesh which keeps sunglasses from fogging.

Polarized Sunglasses

Bring at least one pair of hydrophobic, extreme-polarized sunglasses. This will help you see into the water instead of just seeing the reflection on the surface. They will also help to protect your eyes from the sun.

Extra Shoes and Socks

Chances are good your shoes and socks will get wet at some point. Bring an extra pair of each to avoid discomfort.

Important Documents

Since you will be traveling, bring your passport, visa, identification, fishing license, and any other documentation you may need.

Toiletries and Travel Essentials

Don’t forget to bring a toothbrush and toothpaste! Bring all the toiletries you need, but make sure you have medication and prescriptions packed. Pain relievers and motion sickness medication are both essential if you sometimes struggle with being on a boat for extended periods of time. You’ll want a cooler for your food and drink, plus a separate one for fish if you’re catching them to eat.

Essential Fishing Tools

Depending on whether you hired a guide, you may need to bring your own tools to land and prepare fish. If you intend to keep the fish for food, you may want to dress the fish immediately. If so, bring a good, sharp knife. You may also need a net, pliers, your own rod and reel, extra gear like tippets and leaders, lures, flies, and other tools.

About Gillz®

Since the time Kent Hickman was a boy in his home state of Florida, he would take any opportunity to fish that he could. That’s stayed true since his childhood years, and Kent eventually went on to fish professionally, joining the tournament circuit. Finding fishing clothes for tournaments that ticked the boxes of keeping him comfortable, protected from the elements, and cool in the hot Florida sun was a challenge. In 2009, he took matters into his own hands and founded Gillz® to provide his fellow anglers with stylish performance fishing shirts, fishing masks, and other fishing apparel. Now it’s your turn to join the growing fishing community that loves to wear Gillz® apparel.

How to Prevent a Great Fishing Day From Being Ruined by the Elements

For anglers, a day of fishing is like the best parts of a vacation compressed into a single experience. It’s relaxing, it’s exciting, and it’s an invigorating interaction with nature. A great day on the water serves as a shedding of stress and a recharge to prepare to reenter the busy working world. Some professionals are even fortunate enough to compete and fish as a job.  Fishing Clothes That said, fishing with friends or family is unbeatable comradery and bonding time, while fishing alone is blissful isolation. All of that is why having one of those experiences ruined is such a tragedy, and one to be guarded against diligently. Small Details That Can Make the Difference Between Getting Skunked and Landing a Trophy on the Water

It’s easy to forget the little details. Even experienced, professional anglers forget to bring everything they need or update their clothing every once in a while. It certainly makes sense to do research on your fishing territory, study seasonal feeding and spawning habits, and invest in specialized gear. As often as not, however, it’s the little details determining whether or not you’re getting fish in the boat. Never forget the basics. Sometimes that process is as simple as picking up a hook file and some performance fishing shirts . Performance Fishing Shirts Trade Out Your Line Many anglers put a lot of thought into the line they use. A lot of thought and time goes into deciding what pound test you should be using, whether to go with mono or braided, and whether to use a blue, green, or clear line. Switching out your line when it’s getting old is a step that’s easy to forget and overlook. That’s particularly true for anglers with a dozen different rigs in the...
